A Small Island With a Bigger Vision

Bufumira Island is more than a beautiful destination. We are working toward a future where people can build livelihoods while protecting the island's natural environment and culture.

Our long-term vision is to create a community-led model that connects conservation, sustainable agriculture, youth skills, responsible eco-tourism and community wellbeing.

We are seeking partners, donors and supporters to help build a healthier, greener and more resilient future for Bufumira Island. Our priorities begin with essential community needs and continue toward conservation, education, skills and responsible community-based tourism.

💧 Borehole Water Project

Help assess and develop a reliable source of safe fresh water for island households and community activities, subject to technical assessment, feasibility and required permissions.

Priority: access to safe water

🚻 Toilets & Latrines

Support suitable, safe and hygienic toilet or latrine facilities to improve dignity, public health and sanitation for residents and visitors.

Priority: safe sanitation

♻️ Waste Management

Help establish practical waste collection, sorting and disposal arrangements that reduce pollution and protect the island and Lake Victoria environment.

Priority: a cleaner island

🌱 Tree Planting & Conservation

Continue planting trees, restoring cleared areas and encouraging community action to protect the island's natural environment.

📚 Education & Girls' Support

Help children access essential scholastic materials and support girls' menstrual health, dignity and participation in education.

Priority: learning and wellbeing

🧵 Women's Skills

Support practical skills development that can help women build confidence, pursue their goals and develop small income-generating activities.

🛠 Youth Hands-on Skills

Help young people access practical training and experience that can lead to work, self-employment and local enterprise opportunities.

☀️ Solar Energy & ICT

Help provide solar-powered lighting and, as resources allow, basic ICT access and learning opportunities in a place with limited electricity.

Promote the island's natural and cultural experiences and gradually develop responsible camping and future eco-cottage facilities that can create local income.
